Functions of Education

"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education." -Martin Luther King Education, based on Wikipedia’s definition, is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, morals, beliefs, and habitats. This is true however, many, if not, most people associate education with acquiring knowledge by going to school or college. In reality, it is a social process - ‘a process of living and not a preparation for future living’ (Dewey, 1916). In this view, educators or anyone who provides guidance to a student or learner is tasked to bring out or develop life skills or their potential in different aspects. With that said, education’s role is to not only teach students or anyone academic learning but to also educate value and life lessons, and enhance their abilities whether it is directly taught or not. It may not be pride month, but still continue on raising the flag. Photo retrieved from bento.cdn.pbs.org  “Race, gender, religion, sexuality, we are all people and that's it. We're all people. We're all equal.” ―  Connor Franta      During my English class, I got a wonderful opportunity to meet Michael, the writer of a letter that my English teacher gave us to read. In his letter, he disclosed to his parents that he was homosexual with no one influencing him. There he opened how being gay is, what it taught him, what he experienced as a child and when he found his home, San Francisco. And in the end, he thanked his parents of what he became and reminded them that he is still the same Michael.      Every coming out story is different from others, some will have to repeatedly undergo the same process to different people and some will have to do it once. However, it will always be hard for those people who wish to come out fearing that they will be j

The Essence of Family Day in my Teenage Life

Image
Families should let their relationship grow and bloom, not withered and dead. Picture retrieved from familytreeshop.com             As I continue to grow up and almost reaching the legal age, a lot has changed, from the things I used to see or pass as I go to school to the people I converse with everyday. And in my teenage journey, my relationship with my family and friends over the years did not escape from being altered. Well, change is inevitable and despite my unwillingness to the bittersweet changes, it seems that my willpower could not stop it and because of the changes, I slowly became a person with a chaotic mind.            Ever since I became a high school student, it keeps getting harder and harder each passing day to juggle my time with my friends, my family, my studies and my responsibilities as part of the student body especially now since as a tenth grader I also have to take part in CAT.            My relationship with these people have become stra

Females' Terror: Cervical Cancer

Our body is sometimes a mystery so we should learn about it especially diseases that can affect us and our body. Photo retrieved from photobooths.co.uk The reproductive system consists of internal and external organs that are found in both female and male anatomy with different organs that have their own specific functions. These organs work together to achieve a common goal and purpose which is to procreate. The reproductive system is an important system because without it the existence of the new generation wouldn’t be achieved. As we all know, the process of the reproduction of new organisms is through sexual intercourse, which means a male and female has to exchange bodily fluids to successfully reproduce an offspring. However, due to this process, it is very easy to obtain diseases that can affect our life whether it is sexually or not. This system is quite sensitive therefore we must take care of it. In this blog, we will be specifically focus on tackling about Ce
