Why Dogs are Better than Cats

They say cats are better housepets than dogs because their owners don't have to exert much effort in taking care of them. But the question is; are the benefits of having cats as housepets as beneficial as having dogs? As what the saying goes, " A dog is a man's bestfriend." Although people oppose of having a dog since they need to make time for this animal, its actually nice to have a dog as a housepet.

First of all, dogs give pure emotions to their owners. They are very affectionate to people they love and trust. Just like a human child, they would come running to their owners when they arrived for an errand or from a walk. With the emotions that they give to their owners, it made those people feel loved, important and happy. Cats can show love and bond with their owners but it is more often at arms length. According to an article written by Jacqueline Bennett, dog owners are less likely to suffer depression. It is quite hard to stay down when taking care of a bubbly and loving animal.

Secondly, dog owners are more likely to have a healthier lifestyle. Taking care of a dog requires effort and this forces the owners to stay active. Meaning they need to take their dogs out for a run or walk. This is an opportunity for the owners to exercise, lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease. Unlike cat owners, their choice of pet doesn't need to be taken out for a walk, most cat owners fail to get a proper exercise. Aside from that, dogs have the ability to smell cancer in the human body. According to dog owners who experienced this, such as Philip and Paula Wood and their dog, Bessie, Shannen Doherty and her dog, Bowie, Dr. Claire Guest and her dog, Daisy, said their dogs would sniff or lick a mole or a lump on their body. When they got it checked out, they discovered it was cancerous. Some dogs are even trained to detect cancer according to Kathy Banjamin's article.

Lastly, dog owners would have an active social life. Dog owners interact with random people when would take their dogs for a walk. In fact, there's a higher possibility in meeting the man or woman of your dreams. It actually happened to TV presenter, Davina McCall, she met her husband while she was taking her dog out for a walk. About 5% dog owners met people during their walk with their dogs and started dating them. A recent study surveyed that 1,210 individuals find their people online and meet their dates because they have pets. According to Psychology Today, people, especially women, are sensitive and easily loves those people who have pets  So not only dog owners can make new friends, they can also improve their love life.

Dogs may take up your time but it is comforting to have a companion that welcomes you and shows affection to you like a human being. People who are alone and in need of companion consider on getting a dog. Even people with friends have dogs as their housepets. In short, dogs are suitable to become as pets to any type of people.
